Video ~ New Album ‘The Town Mountain: Dead Session’

Town Mountain - Dead Sessions

From TownMountain.net
“Town Mountain is excited to announce the independent release of Town Mountain: The Dead Session on Friday, November 13, 2015. “Each member of this band has enjoyed the music of the Grateful Dead for quite some time,” says vocalist and guitarist Robert Greer. “It seemed only fitting for Town Mountain to pay respect to some musical heroes in this year, their 50th year of existence.” They recorded an impromptu set of two of their favorite songs from the Grateful Dead’s catalog, “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and “Big River” at the widely acclaimed Echo Mountain Recording Studios in their hometown of Asheville, NC.

This is the Grateful Dead done in Town Mountain’s hard drivin’ style filled with a honky tonk edge and barroom swagger. The resulting sound is touched by Jerry Garcia with Jimmy Martin and John Hartford… Fitting since Hartford played a short stint in Old and In The Way before Vassar Clements filled out the band on fiddle, and Garcia’s first instrument was a banjo as he was influenced by bluegrass music throughout his career. Narrowing down to just two was not an easy task for Town Mountain.
“What can I say about “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo”? It’s just perfect. Lyrically it’s amazing,” says banjoist Jesse Langlais. “Robert Hunter can be so descriptive yet so vague in the point he’s trying to get across. Which is great for the audience because it allows listeners to choose what they want the song to be about. In my opinion that’s what a good songwriter does. He leaves the song open to interpretation.”

Langlais says, “Musically, Mississippi was extremely fun to play with exciting changes and a lot going on melodically… almost like there’s two songs in one. On the original studio version of this song Vassar Clements plays fiddle. Bobby and I tried to mimic the interplay that Jerry and Vassar had on it. This is just an amazing song, and and it made sense for us to record it because it had a bluegrass master involved. We adopted it into Town Mountain’s repertoire without changing the integrity of the song.”

“Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” was written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter and originally released on Wake of the Flood in 1973. It was performed over 230 times live by The Dead over the years and the song was also the second set opener of the second night of the Fare Thee Well shows in Santa Clara this year.

“Big River” was written by Johnny Cash in 1958. But true to The Dead’s fashion they would take other people’s songs or traditional songs and make them their own. They had a knack for finding covers that were transcendent of the original artist and they played it in almost 400 live performances.

“We’ve always liked their version of country music. Even their original albums we’re steeped in that sound. Workingman’s Dead is full of country music influence,” explains Langlais. “The Dead kept the sentiment of ‘Big River’ but translated it to make an audience, who may not have known what country music was, love it. That audience for them was typically a younger more rock or jam influenced fan but they still ended up knowing the song and singing along.” “Big River” fits right into Town Mountain’s sound and wheelhouse.

The core of Town Mountain is Robert Greer on vocals and guitar, Jesse Langlais on banjo and vocals, Bobby Britt on fiddle, Phil Barker on mandolin and vocals, and Adam Chaffins on bass (Adam is featured on “Mississippi”). Evan Martin plays drums on both tracks. Jon Stickley fills in on bass and guitar in “Big River” and Jack Deveroux lays down the pedal steel on “Big River.”

For the cover art, Town Mountain turned to long time Grateful Dead artist Taylor Swope. Taylor has been creating official Grateful Dead art since the former VP of Grateful Dead Productions discovered her in a parking lot at a show in 2003 and offered her a license on the spot. Her work has become iconic in it’s own right, having become widely associated with the generations of Deadheads who have grown up in the wake of Jerry Garcia’s passing.

Riding the wave of excitement that followed Fare Thee Well where her poster was one of only four featured at both stadiums, and sharing Town Mountain’s deep appreciation for American roots music, Taylor says she “thoroughly enjoyed creating this image. I am obsessed with swimming and water in general, so when Town Mountain asked me to draw them a river with a Steal Your Face, it was a natural fit.”

Town Mountain is no stranger to playing covers, and what has become one of the group’s more memorable live performance songs is their version of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire,” which they first recorded in 2008’s Heroes & Heretics. Town Mountain’s version “I’m On Fire” has reached over 1 Million listeners on Spotify and has garnered over 430,000 views.

Town Mountain is also prolific in songwriting; each member contributes their well-supplied vat of original material. They’ve been finalizing their next studio release which was produced and engineered by GRAMMY winner Dirk Powell in his studio, The Cypress House, in south Louisiana. For a sneak peek at what to expect on the future album, watch the band perform a new original song, “Wildbird,” in this wonderful session filmed by Hype Music Festivals at the 2015 Suwannee Springfest in Live Oak, FL → http://bit.ly/Wildbird_byTownMountain_HYPE.”

Video ~ Papadosio Kickstarter ‘Extras in a Movie’

From Papadosio
“Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the Papadosio Kickstarter. We have been hard at work in the studio creating our fourth full length studio LP and we need your help putting on the finishing touches. We are offering a multitude of unique rewards for all of our fans! So go check it out and have an awesome day!

Check out the Kickstarter Now – http://kck.st/1xvFTO5

Since the release of our last album To End the Illusion of Separation (T.E.T.I.O.S.), life has been nothing short of a rip-roaring ride through time and space. With hundreds of shows, and tens of thousands of miles under our belts, we decided to kick off 2015 by retreating to the quietness of the woods and snow in order to finally record our 4th full-length studio LP.

Unlike all previous albums, the tracks set aside for this release have never been heard. We felt it was time to not simply release yet another compilation of songs we had debuted live, but rather, take the time to craft and curate an expansive collection of music that was written over the course of 2 years and recorded in 2 months in a studio we put together outside of Asheville, NC. Now, thanks to Kickstarter – our friends and fans have a unique opportunity to be a part of the final stages of production of the release, which will include a host of music videos as well as new platforms for listening including our first ever vinyl pressing.

As the project unfolds, the goal is to not only to meet these new benchmarks of one-of-a-kind memorabilia to commemorate this amazing moment in our journey as a band, but also effectively facilitate an independent, world-wide release of this deep-space exploration of art and sound. This piece marks the pinnacle of 9 years of incredibly hard work, touring and dedication and to have it backed by our amazing and ever-growing fan-base whose love and support has continued to make all this possible is a dream come true. Technologically and philosophically speaking, it’s clear that there’s no better way at this time to share this effort with world than through each other. At the minimum it serves as a reminder of how much we are capable of, and at the maximum – time will tell.

We are so incredibly excited to add this album to the Papadosio collection. We cannot ever thank you all enough for everything you have done for us and we’ll see you on the other side.”

Sincerely,
Papadosio

The Disco Biscuits Release ‘The Classical Set’ on Vinyl

Disco Biscuits - Classical Set

From Disco Biscuits
“On behalf of the entire Disco Biscuits organization, I couldn’t be happier to announce the official release of THE CLASSICAL SET….on vinyl (now available for preorder HERE ). This special afternoon show was performed on Aug 16, 2003 at a festival we put together in the mountains of Trade, Tennessee called “TranceMission.” The tracks consist of arrangements of some of the most famous classical pieces of music, mixed with some Biscuits classical-inspired originals. I vividly recall the band tearing through the sheet music of the conductor’s score and crafting our own unique four piece orchestration that still stayed true to the written music.

Though we have played some of these songs very rarely over the years, this is the only time we have performed them as one complete set, and that fluidity made it an instant fan favorite since the day it was first performed. An audience mic recording was the only thing available to document this performance…until now. Earlier in the year, the multi-tracked, grouped stems (individual recordings of each instrument) were discovered, and we knew immediately we had to have them polished for an official archive release. The stems were sent out for mixing and mastering to Jon Altschiller, who has the incredible talent of bringing live Biscuits performances back to life like he did with the releases Wind at Four to Fly, Rocket 3 and the TransFusion Radio series. The new mix was then sent out to one of the best mastering engineers in the country for vinyl, Scott Hull, who expertly de-noised and optimized the release for vinyl. This astonishing audio was then pressed to high quality, virgin 180g vinyl by RTI, Americas finest vinyl production facility pressing plant.

Why do I tell you all this? Because the results absolutely blew me away. I have listened to this recording many, many times, especially throughout the mixing and mastering process. We just wanted to get this release out there already. But when I sat down and heard the vinyl master for the first time, I was astonished. I couldn’t believe how captivating the recording was, and how immersed I became in the show; a show I had heard so many times before. There was new life to it. It was breathing. A portal back in time to that summer afternoon in 2003.

This limited edition, four side, official release has been set for November 28, but we are accepting pre-order reservations HERE that will ship out by mid-November. The release contains original artwork by Gwen AP, liner notes by Jon Lesser, a special bonus track on side 4, a download card redeemable for a free digital version of the album, and, for those who purchase via the pre-order before the end of October, a bonus item from our merch store.”

Roll over Beethoven…we’re rocking in 2 by 2.
-Aron Magner

2. The Devil’s Waltz (10:12)

4. The Thieving Magpie (8:20)

New Album from Lotus Titled ‘Gilded Age’

From LotusVibes.com
“When Mark Twain coined the term “The Gilded Age” he was describing the Reconstruction Era’s thin veneer that masked substantial social struggle. Nostalgia is like the gilded age of memory. It’s easy for the mind to increase the former glory, the perfect sheen, the once timelessness of present-day ruins.

On this album we wanted to occupy that powerful place of the human mind, the mental eye that can see erosion and cracks and envision a palace. We focused primarily on simple organic instruments: drum, bass, guitar, piano, percussion, played live in a room. The overall mood is one of reflective happiness, the joy of the impermanent, nostalgia of halcyon days.

Remixes from four superb down-tempo electronic producers take the nostalgia into deeper realms. The place where the brain starts reflecting on reflections and mixing together dreams and realities. Welcome to the Gilded Age.”

Album Releases July 22nd, 2014
