Announcing Dead and Company Halloween 2015 at MSG

Dead and Company 2015

From Dead & Company
“The news is out, all over town… Mickey, Bill, and Bob have joined forces with Grammy Winning singer/guitarist John Mayer to form the band Dead and Company. The band will take the stage at the legendary Madison Square Garden on Halloween night, October 31, 2015 and will perform two sets of music drawing largely from the Dead’s historic catalog of songs.

The Fare Thee Well shows were a record-setting success, and ignited enthusiasm for more concerts featuring Grateful Dead members. “There is a place where music, dreams and magic come together,” said Hart. “Grateful Dead music is a portal to that place. It was built to last!”

“Fare Thee Well proved to me that I’m not done exploring new rhythmic territory with Mickey – I’m recommending that everyone puts their helmet on, because we are going to blast our way into some serious drums and space,” said Kreutzmann. “And with Mayer riding shotgun with Weir – we’re in good company, so to speak.”

Mayer will join Hart, Kreutzmann and Weir, along with Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. “I deeply love the Dead’s music, and it has inspired me in ways I never imagined. To help carry this music is the opportunity and the honor of a lifetime,” Mayer said.

“We’re not done with these songs and they’re not done with us,” said Weir. “We’re gonna take these old friends on some new adventures.”

Tickets will go on-sale to the general public Friday, August 14th at 10am ET. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Monday, August 10th at 10am local through Thursday, August 13th at 10pm local. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com. Top tier tickets will be priced under $100, and a number of $50 tickets will be made available in honor of the Grateful Dead’s 50th Anniversary.”

Column ~ “What the hell am I doing? What did I do 10 years ago when there was an awkward silence?”

Technology

From Corey Pyle
Sometimes the greatest thing about Facebook and all of the cool stuff ( I F***ing Love Science, The Mind Unleashed, etc) you can learn, as well as  getting updates on my favorite teams, musicians & news, is taking a break from it all. Remember way back when we used to miss stuff like a sporting event, a new show/song, or a crazy story? Someone would have to fill us in and we’d have to use our imaginations, imagine that!

Did you hear about the new amazing scientific discovery of graphene? Or that a 14 yr old found a cure for cancer. An elephant can remember things and learn how to draw. It’s difficult sometimes to digest just how freaking groundbreaking it all is and gain  perspective about what it all means. Today it’s getting harder to get “unplugged” and just let things sink in (harder for some more than others and vice versa). When I was growing up all we wanted to do was go play outside, which I rarely see today with kids. Most adults/families couldn’t wait for camping/road trips, now it seems a little more about convenience.

This is not a complaint about the Internet – it’s an absolute Godsend and we have the world at our fingertips. However, finding balance isn’t easy for us humans. I try to remind myself that we are weaving our way through a new and different age. It’s an interesting and wonderful thing to be alive right now, but I think it’s important to practice balance. Such as putting down your  phone when you’re with friends, strangers or even by yourself.

I’ve started to do this multiple times before and thought “What the hell am I doing? What did I do 10 years ago when there was an awkward silence? Oh, I probably felt awkward and then the next time that happened I felt less awkward and less awkward until I eventually saw it coming and instead of feeling awkward I felt comfortable because I expected it and thought of something CREATIVE to say or do differently. PRACTICE. I feel like this has become a lost art.

Our minds were meant for more than to be used for giant data dumps. Maybe the same thing is wrong with schools — kids getting fed information simply to repeat it back. They have little time to digest and turn that knowledge to experience and wisdom. Is there too much over-stimulation and not enough social activity or downtime? Go fetch ya some inner peace and then keep it to yourself!

“To attain knowledge, add things every day. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.” – Lao Tzu

New Album ~ ‘Ashes and Dust’ by Warren Haynes featuring Railroad Earth

Warren Haynes - Ashes & Dust

From Amazon
“Ashes and Dust is a masterful work of art and a particularly important statement for the Grammy Award winning artist Warren Haynes. The songs are immediately and clearly different from his usual style – encompassing beautiful acoustic arrangements, a rootsy/Americana soundscape and honeyed vocals that cut straight through to the soul. Knowing that he wanted to pursue a more folk-based approach on this project, he brought in the New Jersey-based Americana band Railroad Earth as collaborators. This 2-CD deluxe edition package features 5 bonus tracks.”

Town Mountain 2015 Summer Tour

Town Mountain - 2015 Tour

From Town Mountain
“Town Mountain continues their Summer Tour 2015, traveling from coast to coast. The award-winning Asheville-based group is excited to debut at Yonder Mountain’s Northwest String Summit in Oregon where Bobby Britt will also be teaching a fiddle workshop with Darol Anger and Alex Hargraves. Other tour highlights include a performance at Steep Canyon Ranger’s Mountain Song Festival in Brevard, NC and the honor debuting their music at this year’s Americana Music Association Festival and Conference in Nashville.

Town Mountain’s hard drivin’ bluegrass sound, tight harmonies, and stellar in-house songwriting have become the band’s trademark. They light up the stage with their honky tonk edge and barroom swagger, featuring a Jimmy Martin-style bounce and confidence that is countered at times by a laid-back John Hartford-esque groove. Town Mountain includes Robert Greer on vocals and guitar, Jesse Langlais on banjo and vocals, Bobby Britt on fiddle, Phil Barker on mandolin and vocals, and Adam Chaffins on bass.

Town Mountain is heading into the studio for an impromptu recording session during the summer of 2015. For this impromptu summer project, Town Mountain will be cutting two songs to pay tribute to The Grateful Dead. The Dead has had a huge influence on Town Mountain as a whole and each of its members. Banjoist Jesse Langlais says, “We want to honor their 50 year mark tour with Town Mountain renditions of two of our favorite Grateful Dead songs.” Look for these two new tunes this festival season.

Town Mountain just wrapped up the final touches of their 5th studio album. Produced and engineered by GRAMMY winner Dirk Powell, the album was recorded in Powell’s studio The Cypress House in south Louisiana. For a sneak peek at what to expect on the future album, watch the band perform a new original song, “Wildbird,” in this wonderful session filmed by Hype Music Festivals at the 2015 Suwannee Springfest in Live Oak, FL → http://bit.ly/Wildbird_byTownMountain_HYPE.”
