NedFest 2012 Announces Dates & Lineup

From NedFest 2012

“The 14th annual NedFest – returning August 24-26, 2012 to the Jeff Guercio Memorial Ballfield on the banks of Barker Reservoir in the beautiful high-country town of Nederland, Colorado – is proud to officially announce its artist lineup. Tickets are available now at NedFest.com. With a dependable yearly lineup, partnerships with local breweries, tickets capped at 2,000 and a true scene of devotees that returns year after year, NedFest continues to keep the mountain town’s homegrown musical legacy alive.

When festival founder “Michigan Mike” Torpie passed away in November 2011, there were a lot of doubts in the community about what was going to happen to NedFest. Eventually, a group of his friends and long-time festival volunteers got together and asked his family what they would like to do with the festival. The Torpie family did not want to make money from Mike’s death so a non-profit organization named “Peak to Peak Music Education Association” was formed. The non-profit intends to help in the education of music for children. The Torpie family liked the idea and gave their blessings to continue NedFest.

This year, the festival features top headliners like a one-off performance from Keller Williams, Steve Kimock & Kyle Hollingsworth; the Jimmy Herring Band featuring the Widespread Panic guitarist and Jeff Sipe on drums; long-time festival favorite Melvin Seals and JBG and a yet-to-be-announced Grammy-winning band. Additionally, the festival continues it tradiotn of featuring top Colorado musicians. Kyle Hollingsworth Band featuring the String Cheese Incident keyboardist and drummer Dave Watts of The Motet; Great American Taxi featuring Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon; Yarn; Fox Street Allstars and many more are also featured.

A pair of late-night shows at the First Street Pub, which have become legendary over the years, also take place Friday and Saturday nights of the festival with top Boulder acts Jet Edison and Smooth Money Gesture.”

Soulive’s Alan Evans Trio Announces 2012 Drop & Run Tour

From AlanEvansTrio.com

“Alan Evans Trio, featuring soul and jazz veteran Soulive’s founding member Alan Evans, kicks off their US Drop & Run tour beginning August 5, 2012, with over 30 stops across the country including Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and more; ending in Florida for Bear Creek Festival.
Alan Evans Trio recently released their new album Drop Hop (Royal Family Records), now available digitally and on vinyl around the globe, and in select retail outlets. As Alan Evans Trio, members Danny Mayer (On the Spot Trio) on guitar, and Beau Sasser (Melvin Sparks Band, Akashic Record) on organ, together with Alan Evans, share an energetic on-stage chemistry, a love for album recording, and for taking their music out on the road.
“I’m really happy that I’ve been able to turn my connections with Beau and Danny into fully realized dream. For awhile, I was contemplating starting a new band to do something different. I had been playing with Beau regularly at Bishop’s Lounge, a local spot in Northampton, MA, and had also just worked with Danny on his last album with OTS. This is when it all started to come together for me. Danny was straight killin it, playing guitar exactly the way I would. I knew that Danny and Beau together would be scary,” says Alan about how AE3 started.”

From The Heavy Pets

“The Heavy Pets hit the road this August and September with a highly anticipated five show run in Colorado highlighted by an appearance at the LoHi Music Festival in Denver, a benefit for the town of Live Oak at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, Phish after-parties in Alabama and Georgia, three nights with Greenhouse Lounge in their home state of Florida, and a run up and down the coast anchored by sets at the Savannah Craft Beer Festival, Catskill Chill, Wormtown Music Festival and The Werk Out.
This run is also highlighted by the introduction of bassist Tony D’Amato, longtime friend of the Pets and band mate of drummer Jamie Newitt in the Philadelphia-based jazz-fusion act, Spontaneous Underground. Justin Carney has left the band to pursue other interests. “We are very excited to welcome Tony to the family. I have been a fan of his since my first time seeing SpUn, and look forward to the deeply funky impact he will have on this band,” says guitarist Jeff Lloyd. In typical THP fashion, they have a full tour schedule ahead giving them plenty of opportunity to introduce D’Amato to their rapidly expanding fan base.”
