FromPROTECT IP Act Breaks The Internet “PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.”
“Umphrey’s McGee is launching the Red Rocks & Blue Bundle, a one of a kind Pay What You Want charity campaign featuring their 2 part documentary Red Rocks and Blue, available for the first time. Every dollar donated to the campaign feeds one meal to the hungry in association with the Feed Them With Music charity, and if our goals of 2,500 and 5,000 meals delivered are reached, all participants will receive unreleased rare tracks from UM. The highest donors will be rewarded with exciting prizes, like the chance to name a UM song and a rare autographed copy of the band’s long out of print debut. This 1-week only event is happening at Groupees, a new platform designed to transform the digital media download into a social event by way of unique exclusive deals on music, games, and video.”

“A lot of professors give talks titled “The Last Lecture.” Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them. And while they speak, audiences can’t help but mull the same question: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?
When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn’t have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave–“Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”–wasn’t about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because “time is all you have…and you may find one day that you have less than you think”). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living.
In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humor, inspiration and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come. ‘We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.'” –Randy Pausch
