Video ~ I Went Hungry…To Save A Life

I WENT HUNGRY is a global music industry initiative started by the legendary reggae band the Wailers to help eradicate hunger. Food is a human right. There are 25,000 people who die needlessly each day because they are denied this very right. The band decided to put their empathy into action upon learning that every 6 seconds a child dies of hunger, so they are enlisting their fellow musicians to go hungry by donating a portion of their tour catering to the I WENT HUNGRY campaign. If you can give up one meal or snack and donate that money, then you can give a child a school lunch for as little as 25 cents which will nourish their bodies and their minds; and You can declare I WENT HUNGRY! The Wailers are asking for your support. We invite our fans, fellow musicians, athletes, electricians, actors, artists, ceo’s, students, mothers, fathers, and all our brethren and sistren in declaring I WENT HUNGRY! This is something that we can all impact. This is a stage that everyone can perform on. There IS enough food in the world to feed EVERYONE! 100% of all donations are being given to the World Food Program (WFP) and directed towards the food crisis in Ethiopia. WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency and the United Nations’ frontline agency for hunger solutions.

Charity of the Month ~ American Cancer Society

American Cancer Society mission statement
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

International mission statement
The American Cancer Society’s international mission concentrates on capacity building in developing cancer societies and on collaboration with other cancer-related organizations throughout the world in carrying out shared strategic directions.

History of Relay For Life
One person can make a difference. Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington, as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed—running marathons.

In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma for more than 83 miles. Throughout the night, friends paid $25 to run or walk 30 minutes with him. He raised $27,000 to fight cancer. That first year, nearly 300 of Dr. Klatt’s friends, family, and patients watched as he ran and walked the course.

While he circled the track those 24 hours, he thought about how others could take part. He envisioned a 24-hour team relay event that could raise more money to fight cancer. Months later he pulled together a small committee to plan the first team relay event known as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In 1986, 19 teams took part in the first team relay event on the track at the colorful, historical Stadium Bowl and raised $33,000. An indescribable spirit prevailed at the track and in the tents that dotted the infield.

Lucid House June 2009

“Eye scorching, ear splitting audiovisual mix-up inspired by the electronic music phenomena and today’s epileptic media bombardment. A wandering dreamy chronicle of flickering, mood phasing colour bursts and surreal opiate-like visions blurring the line between analogue and digital. A no holds barred sampling of films, tv, ads, the web, street art and ordinary everyday objects, layering and coaxing these diverse, contradictory samples into ghosts of their former selves. Early man stared into the primordial fires, gazing deeply into those shape-shifting flames. Hopefully this piece can touch on that hypnotic state and inspire some creative occurrence.” Audio & Visual mix by: Morris La Mantia [Lucid house]
