“To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir will reunite at Chicago’s Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last-ever Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead” will take place over three nights – July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2015 – and mark the original members’ last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (Guitar), Jeff Chimenti (Keyboards) and Bruce Hornsby (Piano), and will perform two sets of music each night.”

Home to countless legendary performances from Sonny Rollins to the Grateful Dead, the energy is undeniable. Our excitement about that show returns today as we roll out the previously unreleased, re-mastered matrix recording from the vault.
The show featured the debut of “Great American,” with the venue appropriately serving as the song’s namesake. Phil Lesh dropped by and joined in on “Robot World,” as well as the first rendition of “Franklin’s Tower” since 1998. Throw in “Divisions” > “Glory” > “Divisions” and some humorous banter about Blue Öyster Cult and you’ve got classic UM.

Set II featured some deep-space millennial exploration during Sand and Wading In The Velvet Sea > Tweezer > Runaway Jim.
